Can you set a foot switch input to trigger record

I'd love to be able to hook up a regular on/off footswitch into the 1/4" input on the back of Push and have it be able to trigger to start a recording in a clip that is selected. I find often times I don't want to move my hands if I have something good happening and just be set up with the clip highlighted and just hit the foot switch would be ideal. Can anyone here tell me how to set that Up?

The footswitch input 2 is dedicated to that... But it has a huge latency.
If you have M4L it's easy to patch a device which does it without latency.
