Tips for a good bass and kick in Ableton

Post by JimmyRambo » Mon Aug 04, 2014 2:39 pm

Hi, I've read quite a lot into this already, but wanting to know any other approaches to this. Im basically trying to create a very deep thick bassline with a punchy kick to fit with the deep house Im making. Here is an example:

Does anyone know any methods to achieve this kind of bass? Ive tried layering a sub bass sound in operator with various bass sounds using a range of VST's, but they either sound out of tune, or just lifeless and robotic. The sub bass never compliments the upper bass!!

I don't want to use too much side-chaining, as I don't want it to sound pumpy. but then again I don't want the kick and bass clashing! In theory, I want to create a lazy groove that sounds wide as hell, but very punchy and tight to allow room for percussion/vocals... Any tips are welcome :)
