Bringing wave files into Live 9 via thumb drive.

Post by jhooker » Wed Aug 13, 2014 9:43 pm

I'm new to Ableton Live. The way I start a song is to bring a few wave tracks into Live via a thumb drive results in the following problems:

a- The tracks should begin on bar 18 and they start on bar 9.
b- what was some nice sounding chords in my synth do not sound as good, and some terrible.
c. the temp I recorded was 180 pbm and Live sees them at 90.4 (this is not a biggie compared to the other two problems as the tracks do play at the correct tempo, but Live see them at half the speed?

Would appreciate your help.
Thanks, jhooker

since you know they are recorded at 180 (roughly 2 x 90.4) then all you need to do is set the tempo in Live to 180 before you import.

you could also go into Live's preferences and turn off "Auto warp long samples" so that when you import them they are not warped.

not sure if you're doing this or not, but personally I would move the tracks off the thumb drive before importing to Live. when you save your set go to File and choose "Collect All & Save" so that your samples are pulled into the project folder for the set. you could also move them there manually, but then when you open the set you will have to "fix" it by pointing to the new location of the files.

not sure what to tell you about the audio quality. that could be a format thing or how you're listening to your synth... like with an amp or headphones etc. we would need more details to help with that, but i'm no synth guy so... i hope the first bit helps.

good luck.

Thanks so much. You've given me a lot of help. I'm not sure what's going on with the audio, I'm going to try some different sounds with my synth and see if that will translate a little better. Have a good week.

Oh, forgot to ask you why do you think it started my tracks in Live on bar 9, when actual recording began on bar 18 in my synth?

Thanks again, Jim

same as the tempo... 9 is half of 18. half the tempo, half the bars.

at the end of the day, Live's warp feature is a best guess scenario.

someone might count 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4
or they might count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4

either way... it does not change what you hear. it only changes the box you're trying to shove it in

I did see that auto warp was on, so that seems why the tempo was off. But while 9 is half of 18, the song is 132 bars, so I think there must be something else but I will sew what happens without warp on.

thanks again. Are you a guitar player?

Jim.
