Issues with OS 9 and M-audio FW410

Post by stfrequency » Wed Jun 08, 2005 12:38 am

After browsing this forum, it appears I may be dragging out a dead horse with this one, but my problems are a bit different than the "drop-outs" I've been reading about on here...

I realize I'm working on an antiquated rig, but still this kind of thing should not be happening... I'm running OS 9.2 on a TiBook 667, using Live 1.5 and a Firewire 410. This interface appears to be just total crap with Live and my setup. Once I get more than a few clips running or start playing with VSTs, I get this crispy distortion spurting randomly in my audio output. It's really awful. Also, when I try to externally sync to an MPC 2000XL and this distortion kicks in, I simultaneously lose sync -- the timecode slips on the G4 and everything is thrown off. This loss of sync is irreparable and can only be remedied by rebooting. The MIDI problem isn't nearly as disappointing as the distortion garbage, however. I've also tried the same setup on my buddy's G3 iBook (running 9.2 as well) and get the same crappy result. This problem does NOT occur if I use his MOTU 828. I am disgusted with the compatibility of Live/OS 9/410 -- nothing like this happens in any of my other audio apps (ie, Logic).

A lot of you have mentioned glitches with M-Audio products on OSX as well, so I'm wondering if the fact that I'm running 9.2.2 is not the conflicting factor. I'm going out tomorrow to pick up the Edirol UA-25 -- can any Live/OS9 users testify to the compatibility of this interface?

;)
