Question : mulitple tempo automation tracks ?

Post by Mojack » Sun Dec 28, 2014 3:39 pm

Hello,

Is it possible, and if so, HOW :

to have multiple tempo automation tracks in arrangement views, without using scenes *)

*)
I cant use scenes, because I have a Video track, and consolidating time into scenes will convert the video
track into audio only.

What I want to achieve :
I am making music to a movie.
I want to make different music to certain video scenes in the movie, so the producer has some options
to choose from.
The music has different tempos.
So I need a way, to play the music to the same video in different tempos, when switching between them.
I need to have them automated.

Thanks for any ideas.

You might have to render.

AFAIK, you can only have one master tempo at one time in arrangement. What you could do is to take the same music and copy each new tempo section with the video to a new locator in arrangement and enter a specific tempo change at that locator point.

I think there are options to automate moving to a new locator point, but I'm afraid I'm not familiar with these as I just do it by hand, when I need to.

There may be other options, but I haven't used anything else than master tempo, so I'm not familiar with them. I suppose there should be some way to control tempo externally and slave Live to that. Maybe even Max can do this? I'm not sure at all, so just an idea for investigation.

Yeah, like that other guy said, I think you just need to render the different options for the director then go drop those printed clips back on their own tracks.

AFAIK, you can only have one master tempo at one time in arrangement.
While this is true, actually you can have multiple clips with different internal tempos and change song tempo by making them all master tempo clips and the tempo will adjust to the current playing master tempo clip:
"All warped clips in the Arrangement View have one further option: They can be defined as tempo masters by toggling their Master/Slave switches. Any number of clips can be set as tempo masters, but only one clip at a time can actually be the tempo master. This distinction is always granted to the bottom-most, currently playing clip in the Arrangement View.
The clip that is the current tempo master will play as if warping was off, but with one important difference — the rest of the Live Set will be warped so that it plays in sync with the current tempo master."
Section 9.2.1 "Tempo Master/Slave" in Live 9 manual
