Encoder inaccuracy, chain selector

Post by Razzkazz » Fri Jan 02, 2015 6:59 pm

Hi All

I am having a issue when using Push but as I was writing this post I found a workaround so I'll describe the problem, in case anyone has the same issue. Maybe it's a known bug.

When using one of Push's encoders to adjust the Sample Select Ruler position (assigned to a macro) I can get it to select between 2 values/samples when using the encoder set to zero and adjusting the encoder to 1. When set to 1 it will select the zone an increment higher. Once it gets past one everything seems to work as normal, but if you didn't know it there would be an offset of 1. It doesn't happen if you just manually adjust the value when it's assigned to a macro

I got around it by having first sample I want assigned from 0-1, and then from then on 2-2,3-3,4-4, etc. So because of this offset a value of 2 on Push selects value 3-3, even though Live is showing zone 2-2 as being selected, and 2 on the macro control panel. A value of 10 would select zone 11-11 but show zone 10-10 selected.

Sounds confusing but I hope that's clear ;)

Slightly annoying.

Glad you found a way around your problem!

I also experienced the same thing but now I use the iLL GATES "improved 128s" method to avoid this issue

So what'd you do is instead of using the sample selector + macro to scroll through the sounds of the 128, you'd do it via pitch and you'll distribute evenly the samples across the KEYS or Notes page rather than the selector section

create an instrument rack with sampler, drop your 128 samples into the zone window and then in the KEY/NOTE screen select distribute evenly

between the chain and the sampler, drop in 2 Midi Pitch effect modules in a row

like so

[INSTRUMENT RACK>CHAIN>>>>PITCH>>>>PITCH>>>>SAMPLER]

the first Pitch module should be cranked all the way down to -128 this will make any notes you hit come through as Note 0

the next midi Pitch effect you'll want to map a macro to it and make the min value 0 and the max 127 for the macro - so the second pitch knob changes the note value from 0 to 0-127

this will be your sample selector macro

so what you're doing is spreading the 128 samples across all of the keys and using the 2nd pitch macro to change the note value from 0-127 to select the sample that's triggered in your 128

I'm at work right so I can't post any screen shots, but hopefully that made sense and I can always post some screens if yo need 'em

cheers!
