Max for Cats – OSCiLLOT

Post by stringtapper » Fri Jan 30, 2015 4:26 pm

Hmmm, looks like Christian Kleine's been busy. Virtual modular for M4L. Interface seems pretty slick.

OSCiLLOT is a $99 Virtual Modular Rig for Ableton Live – No Cables Needed

the way they've tried to put it together is great, but still this thing is awfully buggy. it crashed live several times within 1 hour of examining this pack, the labels on modules are mixed up (sig1 sig2 sig3 sig3), some controls are from another place (in mixer, 7th fader was controlling 8th channel and vice versa). should be mentioned about 140% CPU load with a couple of oscillators patched together..

Thanks for bringing these 2 little issues to my attention, i fixed them for the next revision.
You might want to send me your crashlog for examination. -> kleine@ableton.com

I don't have Max4Live so i don't know much about it, but to me OSCillot looks to be kinda like Max4Live?
Can someone give me a quick explanation of the difference between OSCillot and Max4Live?
Thx

OSCiLLOT is a modular system that was made with (i.e. programmed in) Max For Live.

So you need either Live Suite or Live Standard plus a Max For Live license in order to run OSCiLLOT.

Basically OSCiLLOT is a higher level modular environment, which means there are a lot of low-level programming details that have already been taken care of so one doesn't have to know how to program in Max in order to get up and running and making some sounds. With M4L you've got to do the programming yourself. OSCiLLOT is a great example of the kind of complex system one can create with Max/M4L and why it's so powerful.

purchased. I really dig the concept and will fully support it. After experimenting for an hour, the routing, chaining and multitrack possibilities are hurting my head.

i wonder, by the way, if feedback loops could be enabled somehow. so far, as far as i understand, if the loop occurs in the patch, processing stops at all.

Feedback is not available yet (feeding the output of a module in it's input) - it might be added for some modules later.

Purchased, well done Christian! Hope this will help me get rid of my Nord modular.

Is it me or am I missing portamento / glide functionality or module, would love to have that feature.

Don't have it, but it must be called slew limiter.

The midi receiver fails to pass midi every now and then. You see the dot light up but no midi gets passed through anymore.
Reloading the midi receiver solves the problem.

Pressing the info button in the editor crashes live completely.

Loading saved work also seems to be a problem every now and then. The "Loading..." indicator gets stuck at 30% and CPU load goes up.

It would be nice if you could send me your logfiles/specs to look into your issues. Thanks!
