clip launching and Tempo change.
Guys, I was wondering what my options where to achieve something. First off, Im using the Will Marshall Ohm RGB template and the reason that that is important is because with all the dummy clips I dont think I can use the launch tempo option because it would launch a ton of dummy clips.
Basically what Im trying to do is take some odd songs that I never get to mix because they are in a much lower BPM and sandwich them in between 2 higher BPM tracks. So say track A is 128BPM, Track B is 88BPM and track C is 128BPM. Basically I just set it up so track a gets through the buildup then stops and track B comes in on the drop. then track B gets to a buildup and then track C comes in on the drop.
I have a few BPM ramping M4L progs but those are usually done by hitting the start button and it ramping up over so many bars. I want just a hard cut BPM change. Is there a way to set a global BPM change at the launch of a new clip?
So Track A plays at 128 and as soon as it stops and track B gets launched it will auto change to 88BPM. Then once track B stops and C is launched it gets changed back to 128.
Is something like this possible? This is the first time Im messing around with mixing BPM that are more then 10 or 12 BPM apart.

I see 2 options at least:William Gibson wrote:

- If you're comfortable launching clips from Arrangement view you can make the tracks in question master tempo tracks and set the tempo per clip. Look up "master tempo" in the manual.
- The second is to launch clips from the master channel, where you type in the tempo you want, like 128 bpm. Typically launching from the master starts all clips on that row of every track, so watch out for that.

1- I dont think it would work because the template is in Session view. So that means I would be using session view the majority of the time then every now and then when I need to jump BPMs like the situation above, switch over to Arrangment view then back to session? I thought you pretty much have to stick to one of the other? How I usually mix is have about 300 songs loaded in live and have them all start about 6 rows from the top. As im mixing I grab them from below and bring them up to one of the 4 (decks) at the time to be launched. I dont know how switching back and fourth between session and arrangement would work.Stromkraft wrote:

2- I explained in the first post why this cant be done. There are dummy clips in line with the master channel of this Template. From what I can gather, you can not launch a scene with this template because not only does it also launch a bunch of dummy clips, but with the crazy routing of this template it does a bunch of other crazy stuff. Im 99% sure this is the case and master channel clip launching is not supported with the layout of this template. Im going to email Will Marshall to double check on this though.
Thanks for the reply Storm. I hope I can get something figured out.
Re: clip launching and Tempo change.
Can't you use an empty (no clips) scene with all stop clip buttons removed?

That sounds quite possible.mothergarage wrote:I guess clyphx can change the bpm with a clip.

OK, but even if it's a third party template you should be able to make changes to it and resave it under a new name as a new project.William Gibson wrote:

Re: clip launching and Tempo change.
Its a template that has Dummy Clips inserted in many of the tracks, as such if you launch a scene it'll also launch a set of dummy clips which will effect the sound rendering Scene Launch pointless... It's another one of those feature requests to make a track invisible to Scene Launch Commands....
It would be possible i imagine to workaround using ClipHX or disable the Scene Launch Buttons with M4L and program them to only launch the clips on specific tracks...
Cheers

There is a small handful of things Ableton could do to really make Live an even bigger powerhouse for live performing that they just seem to ignore.

What kind of all powerful template doesn't give you the opportunity to remove or turn off things you don't use? Given 5 minutes with this template and dummy clips would be inactivated.S4racen wrote:Its a template that has Dummy Clips inserted in many of the tracks
