Clips Recording Confusion

Post by doncolga » Sat Feb 28, 2015 3:57 pm

Brief description: I'm using the Session Record button and want to record separate song sections into separate clips, but recordings keep going into the first recorded clip, even if I select other clips.

I've got a Keith McMillen 12 Step mapped to launch 10 scenes and the Session Record button. Works great for that and I love it. I've also got an Oxygen 61 mapped to move up and down scenes, select tracks, faders, etc. It works great too. I've got a Launchpad arriving today.

So for example, I record into track 1, scene 1 by triggering the Session Record button and it records and starts looping. Perfect. Loop still playing and I arrow down to the next scene to record a new clip. The new clip is highlighted and looks selected, but when I press the Session Record button again, it keeps overdubbing into the first recorded clip instead of going into the new clip. I want it to go into the *new* clip instead, not the first one.

Is the only way to get around this to implement "Start Recording on Scene Launch" and launch the scene I want to record into instead of arrowing down to it? That's definitely better, but the problem I find with this option is that if I'm composing on the fly, it *always* records when I launch a new scene and I don't want it to do that. I may want to just play over the clips instead of record what I'm playing.

If I launch the record button in the clip I want to record into that always works, but I can't map that control, and I need that to be hands free to a foot control, hence I've been using the Session Record button instead.

Any suggestions on this? Surely this can't be difficult.
