something like a Launchpad but with an editor?

Post by rlauriston » Sun May 17, 2015 8:16 pm

I've been trying to use a CMD Touch (Launchpad clone) to send program change messages in real time but it conflicts with my APC40.

I can do it with my MPD18 using its MIDI editor to avoid conflicts, but I want more pads.

Are there other 8x8 or larger grid controllers with editors?

The Livid Ohm RGB would work but it's kind of expensive and has a bunch of extra controls that duplicate what I already have on my APC40.

keep the Launchpad and use it in User 2 Mode as a trigger for clyphx. In clyphx you can use the Midi PC action to send program change messages.

I have it in user mode. The problem isn't with sending PC messages, it's with triggering the clips. For example, I have clip 27 mapped to D2. The APC40's activation button for track 1 also uses D2.

a) you can trigger clyphx without clips via x controls
b) you mean note D2?! You know that within Automap you can remap every pad on your Launchpad as you wish!?

Live does not appear to have any way to distinguish between a D2 note-on coming from the CMD Touch and a D2 none-on coming from the APC40's track 1 activation button.

In other words, I can't map those two buttons to two different things.

Remapping D2 on the CMS Touch als also remaps the track 1 activation button on the APC40.

My first question is this:
Do you remap things on the APC? Or do you use it 100% default without mapping?

If you do not midi map anything on it, you can turn off "Remote" for it in midi preferences.

Then everything should be resolved.

I have never tried this, but they used to claim you could turn Remote off and then on again to sort of shake off any mappings. It doesn't really sound realistic though.

I do remap things on the APC40. The knobs aren't much use without remapping.

Is there a way to change the midi channel that you are mapping on for that device? That's the main problem. Both are using the same midi channel. The APC uses 1-8. If you can find a page on your device that is ch 9-16 you'll be okay. (When midi mapping, you will see the note or cc# and the midi channel)
