Automating Pitch Bend?! And other Automation recording issue

Post by Lye » Sun May 24, 2015 8:50 pm

Hello,

I've been away from ableton for a while and when I used it in the past I always drew my automation, but now I want to try recording it in from push and I'm having trouble with two things that I think should be simple.

1. If I want to record automation after I already have recorded MIDI, it seems like the only way to do it is to arm some other random track and then do global record while my track is selected, otherwise it will delete that track. That seems silly. There should be a record automation button or something so I don't have to erase a random track, this way I have to have a dummy track to record automation on another track. Am I missing something?

2. Recording Pitch bend (on existing clip). How? Pitch bend appears to only be available as modulation. That's annoying, but I'll work with it. When I use the technique in my first question I can't bend the pitch because that track isn't armed. If I arm the track it deletes my midi. How do you do this? Do I have to draw it in?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.
