Automap with Ableton 9 - Mapping Device controls problem

Post by MIAR » Fri Sep 11, 2015 9:04 pm

Hi All,

Having trouble here. Want to map the MACROS of an Instrument Rack I have created to my Remote SL1 pots. Ableton template 40. As my final setup, I am midi mapping the MACROS to the lower pots on the left hand side of my SL Keyboard (note: not the higher continuous control pots).

So all seems to be working fine and I have saved the device (Instrument rack) to my user library.

Now after reopening Ableton and dropping in the Instrument rack again to a new project, its not working as intended. For some reason the mapped pots have shifted from the lower pots to the higher continuous controllers. No idea why its done this. I try remapping again and again and no matter what I try it insists on keeping the midi mapping to the higher pots.

Can anyone explain why or know how to get around this? I can't really live with it like this as one of my controls are for a parameter> Simpler/Transpose and the continuous control pot is not responding correctly. Increasing or decreasing the pot values only pushing the transpose one way. -48 to +48. I'm lost here. Much appreciate any help!

Actually, I'm having a similar problem myself.

I am flat out unable to map the lower pots when I use the remote as a control surface.

I should probably report it as a bug.

The upper pots would automatically control your device no matter what because they control any device which you select (blue hand is showing on the device's title bar)

Thanks yur2

I sent novation a mail on it. Are you on an SLmk1 too? Maybe its not an issue with SLmk2. Disappointing if they left us behind but will see what they say.

Any other users out there have some thought?

I'm actually on mkii and have only recently noticed it.

Also, I wasn't using automap, just the Ableton template. Automap is when I hit the Automap button and use the Novation Automap software.

Interesting. Have you sent them a mail on it?

Hi.

I'm also using an Mk1 ReMOTE 61 SL and I'm actually trying to use it as a basic midi controller (without automap) because I want to map the controls across different devices within live. I'm pretty sure this is possible but I'm not sure how.

The basic idea is that I want to use it to control Reason instruments (using a M4L patch that allows me to do such things) but I want the pots to control multiple instruments without having to switch the focus.

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK when your controller works in Ableton script mode, controls are automatically linked according to script. RemoteSL automatically assigns the upper eight knobs to macros.
If you want the second row knobs automatically linked then you have to make your own user script.
