Drum Racks In Chain Playing Independently - Possible?

Post by Dee Kuul » Sun Sep 27, 2015 4:08 pm

Hi All,

I have two drum racks in the instrument rack below, as can be seen by the screenshot of the chain. I have loaded two completely different drum sample packs, one into each rack and drawn a two bar note onto the first sample in the piano roll of both the 'Cox' clip and the 'C&C' clip in the first track 'Perc 1'.

When I play either clip, it plays the samples for which notes have been drawn from both drum racks. This however is exactly what I don't want. When performing live, I would like to have a clip for each drum rack / sample pack, so that I can flick through the sounds of each sample pack independently. I know this can be accomplished by soloing the rack in the chain, but if I have 20 different sample packs loaded, all the other samples will still be playing (all be it muted), and I want to cut down on RAM / CPU drainage.

Any advice on how this could be accomplished using clips sitting on the same track would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dee.

Hi Ubik,

Thanks a lot. That has helped me select a sample pack using a knob on my midi controller assigned to Macro 1 of the instrument rack and assigning a unique value to the on / off switch off the drum rack as suggested. However, what I'd like to be able to do is have the knob underneath flick through the samples of a particular pack once I have selected it in the chain selector. I guess essentially what I'm trying to do is have the second macro cycle through the piano roll. Is this even possible?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dee.

If you want to select the samples in a drumrack, you'll need to have different samples per pad in a sampler and map the chain selector of the sampler to a macro (the same technique used for the instruments racks). This way you could have up to 127 different samples per pad. (see here, the last post : viewtopic.php?f=1&t=155804&p=1236306&hi ... r#p1236306 )

I'm not sure it is what you ant to accomplish, let me know

Hi Ubik,

That post was helpful, and then I found the youtube tutorial below which was exactly what I was trying to accomplish.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
