Covert Operators 16 Macros - updated for Push?
Covert Operators 16 Macros - updated for Push?
Hi all,
The Covert Operators 16 Macros devices are excellent, but they have some issues working with Push. If you have used them with Push, then you will know what I mean.
Has anyone updated these devices to work nicely with Push?
Many thanks!

Re: Covert Operators 16 Macros - updated for Push?
The main issue is the dials' automapping is out of order with respect to Push. For example, Push knob 1 maps to like knob 10 in the device, and so on.
I am no M4L expert, but due to the way the devices are coded, it is not as simple as setting the Automapping Index property.
I tried rearranging the knobs in the device, which solves the out-of-order-dial problem. However, that creates other problems. It seems to break the nice feature whereby the device automatically advances to the next dial in learn mode.
Basically, it will take someone who knows M4L to fix this, which sadly, is not me.
These devices are great, and I am surprised they have not already been updated for Push by someone in the community.
If someone were to update all of the devices to work nicely with Push (audio, midi, snapshot, and 16 macros), I will buy them a beer.

As I have been researching this, I think I have also seen people complain about the dial names.

Dial names is a limitation of Ableton itself nothing to do with the device, not something that can be fixed....

Yeah - that's no big deal. If the other stuff could get fixed, that would be lovely.

Try one of the Multimapper devices by mothergarage:

Re: Covert Operators 16 Macros - updated for Push?
I have tried mothergarage's devices, and they are nice. However, there is a MAJOR difference between those and the Covert Operator's devices, which I think all developers of these devices should consider:
With mothergarage's devices (and many other "map-able" M4L devices) once you map to a target device parameter, the target device parameter can NO LONGER be changed on its own (like Live's macros).
However, that is NOT the case with the Covert Operators devices, which makes them EXTREMELY useful for creating performance controls whilst maintaining the flexibility to edit the underlying, target parameters. The value of that decoupling is hard to understate. It allows you to make devices with similar performance controls as those which exist on Elektron's Analog Four and RYTM.

Re: Covert Operators 16 Macros - updated for Push?
Spoken with Bjorn at Covert Operators, will see if i can knock up an update in the next few weeks that addresses the Push display issue...
It won't solve the issue of what the lines say for automation but it should allow you to see what the Push Dials are mapped to on the screen...
I'll update this thread at some point in the future...

That's HUGE! I'm buying you a case of beer! Lemme know if you need me to test, etc. And, pretty-please with sugar on top do all four devices:
-16 Macros Audio
-16 Macros MIDI
-Snapshot Morpher Audio

Huge thanks!

Probably not all four, got tons of other projects that need to pay the bills...

Re: Covert Operators 16 Macros - updated for Push?
Got it. If you are interested/have time, let me know how much you would charge to do all four. If the price is right, I might be up for footing the bill. Thanks a lot for the consideration and the rest. Really appreciate it.

No worries, it's not something we'd charge for as it's already out there for Free, i'd just need to see how much work it is in reality....
