multiple simpler rack for push

Post by Tone » Thu Nov 05, 2015 4:09 am

I downloaded the new 9.5 update, and watched all the simpler videos. I have push1 now but am waiting on 2 any day now, so for this topic I was using push1. I dropped a 30 sec or so sample on a simpler and turned on slice. I slid the sensitivity up and down and watched it populate the yellow squares on the push. So I thought it would be interesting if I could split the 64 pads in 1/2 (even 1/4) and have 2 different samples (maybe all in the same key?? hmmm??) hit the slice sensitivity and have it make 32 chops of each sample on each side? then I can bang out a rhythm and/or melody out of 2 different audio files at the same time! This could also be handy in pad slice (could work easier too) the point is to have more than 1 sample on the pads to play together and with the slicer method of chopping this could be done very quickly. I racked up a simpler in slice, added a second chain and simpler in slice. Then just put a midi transpose infront of the second. made some simple macros, sweet colors and done! now only the first simpler turns the pads yellow, as long as you dont go over to the second group of 32 then it wont overlap the second, which is not lit up, but does play and the sensitivity slider on the second simpler works fine u just cant tell where it ends again because they dont light up. I've attached a session with the rack incase anyone wants it. Im hoping to interest someone who could maybe know how to improve on this concept.

Hey. It's funny, I just made a similar thing. Yours is more involved and looks great. My dream is to be able to use multiple simplers from the Push. This works, but unfortunately we lose a lot of features at the same time. Not to mention the Push pads don't really work right among other things. I dream of a "multi-simpler" and the ability to auto slice by beat as well. Maybe there's some clever stuff that can be done through M4L. Unfortunately I'm not that smart :P

I wonder if dragging both clips to arrangement, lining them up, and consolidating them before bringing the new clip into a simpler would be a cleaner result? I suspect you would need to meddle with the warp region (Warp as x bars) if they are distinctly different content.

I like both approaches. There's a lot of potential now that you discovered that Push 2 is smart enough to see both chains of a sliced simpler. You'd be subject to using 2 original clips already the same length with the method I suggest because you want to split the pads down the middle or at least find a split point between the total number of slices.

yes, I was just looking at it as a quick way to try samples against each other. drag 2 different audio files in, get some quick slices by transients, and bang away on pads. If you like the results then some fine tuning of slices and maybe moving audio to different tracks at that point.
