Odd volume boost when disabling the record button

Post by stza maa » Fri Nov 13, 2015 10:26 pm

Hey there,

Ive searched several times for an answer to this problem and i havent been able to see anything about it..

When im live looping my guitars through the session view, once and a while and only on certain guitar tracks, Im getting a slight boost in volume and overall tone after i looped the track and then disarmed the record button.

Its not happening all the time, but every so often it will happen when i practice a song, ill notice this happening. I thought maybe it had someting to do with my setting on the compressor, but that doesnt seem to be it.

I appreciate any help if someone has had a simmilar problem

Cheers,
-S

How have you routed the audio? Can you describe this?

Right. I totally should have mentioned that in the first message.

Im just running my guitar through some overdrives and then direct into a scarlet 18i20. And my ableton settings are Audio from 18i20, MOnitor is auto, and then audio to master

I think something like this happened to me and one of my musical partners once, though the symptoms were more pointing to phase cancellation issues. That can sound different depending on the source. You have any monitor on in your interface?

We did not have monitor on and I reported this issue to Ableton, but we don't know what was behind it as we couldn't repeat it. This was in 9.1.

do you have direct monitoring on or off in the MixControl software?

my first guess would be that you have direct monitoring on and so are hearing the raw guitar signal mixed with a slightly delayed processed version that is going through Live...

There doesnt seem to be anything wrong on the mix control. Tho, I never open it up when im using my scarlet. The only time that i have used it was when i wanted to route the click track out on of the hearphone ports.

But I have since turned off the direct monitoring and it is still haveing the same issue. On this one particular song, It is now just doing it to one guitar track, but not the other. As soon as i make a guitar loop and dis able the record button, the looped guitar sound cleaner and sharper.

Its really quite confusing as to why. But Ill search around the Focusrite site and see if maybe its the interfaces problem
