Focusrite Scarlett on Windows 10 - working OK?
Win 10 is listed as a compatible OS, but more importantly am wondering what your experience of working with this configuration is regarding latency, driver stability and so on.
Cheers

fyi i have heard that the Scarletts are one of the less reliable interfaces...

You have heard that, have you?fishmonkey wrote:fyi i have heard that the Scarletts are one of the less reliable interfaces...
Anyway; my Scarlett 2i2 is working fine on Windows 10, but many people can experience problems if "Fastboot" is turned on in Windows. This happened to me, and every time I booted up my computer, the Scarlett would produce a nasty, distorted sound until I unplugged it and plugged it back in again. When I turned off Fastboot, the problem stopped. Focusrite told me they have a new driver that'll fix the problems in the works. They linked me to a beta driver which presumably should fix the problem, but it didn't. I'm still running this beta driver, though.

yep. i have been looking for a new interface to replace my old touring unit and a couple of reputable sources have said that the Scarlett range is one of the less reliable.sporkles wrote:You have heard that, have you?fishmonkey wrote:fyi i have heard that the Scarletts are one of the less reliable interfaces...![]()

Well, I have used all kinds of audio Cards (internal and external ) over the years and all of them have their quirks now and then.fishmonkey wrote:yep. i have been looking for a new interface to replace my old touring unit and a couple of reputable sources have said that the Scarlett range is one of the less reliable.sporkles wrote:You have heard that, have you?fishmonkey wrote:fyi i have heard that the Scarletts are one of the less reliable interfaces...![]()
So far, my Scarlett 2i2, which I have for about one and half year or so, has hold up really well without a single issue. This on both Windows and OSX.
So I am wondering about these so called reputable sources of yours.

huh, first time i've seen people take audio interfaces so personally. weird...
would you believe that reputable sources (and personal experience) have told me that RME interfaces tend to be rock solid?

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 has a known clipping problem with the instrument inputs every unit out there has this problem.
The only fix is to use a D.I. box or sell it for something else. I traded mine in for Saffire pro 14 Im not very happy with this interface either mainly because its firewire.... Firewire interfaces don't work well with EL Capitan
I remember trying to use the 2i2 with windows and it seemed like I could never get the interface to record and playback at 92khz

The Push / Novation Launch Pad / Novation Launch Pad Pro / Novation Launch Key
/ Launch Control XL / Machine MkII / Machine Studio / BeatStep / Livid OhmRGB / Livid Code V2 / Apc 40 MKII
no computers or synths
20 Copies of Ableton Live Lite.

If you have a guitar with high output pickups it's better to go for the Scarlett 4i2 instead as it has pad buttons. My electric guitar luckily doesn't have "that" high of an output on my pickups.nathannn wrote:The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 has a known clipping problem with the instrument inputs every unit out there has this problem.

When it comes to Firewire. Firewire is pretty much obsolete technology now. As far as I remember no Mac since 2011 or so has firewire anymore, as it has been replaced by Apple with Tunderbolt.
So unless you have a very old Mac with Firewire port or want to spend another 50 bucks for a Tunderbolt to Firewire adapter ( which might work or not work with your audio device. My old trusty M-audio interface with Firewire did not work through this adapter, so I was forced to retire it.
Pretty much all computers and laptops these days have USB 3.0 and USB 3.0 hubs are cheap these days. Will give you plenty of throughput. I have absolutely no issues connecting all my gear, including audio interface through the USB 3.0 hub to single USB 3.0 port.
PS. When it comes to playback frequencies, remember to close all other applications, especially browsers, when using a frequency other than 44,1kHz in your DAW! This has always been an issue on Windows as far as I can remember.
So close all applications, open your DAW and set the frequency to your desired value. Then it will work.

I have 18i20 works fine directly plugged into MOBO. Has issued plugged into a hub connected to other interfaces (occasionally cutouts which require me to restart the interface).craftycurate wrote:Win 10 is listed as a compatible OS, but more importantly am wondering what your experience of working with this configuration is regarding latency, driver stability and so on.

Also occassionally cuts off with ASIO4ALL when used with other interfaces.
But for the most part I use Scarlet Only drivers in Ableton for most applications to mix and render at 96k/24 before dropping it to 44.1k. And i use Alesis I/O4 for Youtube/Audacity at 44.1k while scarlet is DAW only at 96k/24. No issues.
I use ASIO4ALL for special recording activities in combination with USB Microphones, Mackie USB, Alesis USB, Korg USB, Yamaha USB.
With ASIO4ALL I use 48k/24 mode.
Dedicated Scarlet driver is more reliable than ASIO4ALL and handles 96k24 1.0 ms buffer without a hitch.
