MIDI only mode

What if there was a to use Ableton's MIDI without turning on the audio driver? If Ableton was only handling MIDI without audio would there be far less computer generated MIDI jitter sent out? This problem isn't unique Ableton but pretty much a DAW problem and there aren't any modern solutions that only do MIDI and still have a GUI that you want to work in. So I don't know how that would work but it would be rad if you could turn off the audio driver, still play your external MIDI, and there be far, far less jitter/funny-with-it clock
