Ableton asks to relocate sound files

Post by prprprpr » Tue Apr 05, 2016 10:11 pm

Windows 8.1 messed up my soundlibrary...

I have sound library which is on external HDD, recently when I plugged the HDD started to get messages that it might contain errors and I need to repair it,
i ignored it and was fine, but once decided to fix it, because mac for some reason didn't recognize it. I dont remember exact window but it was similar to one of these: https://www.winhelp.us/images/windows/d ... disk10.jpg http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/upl ... 1B44ys.png

After I repair/fix it. The pop up window was gone, however when I open empty project ableton couldn't locate folders on places column. I relocated manually all the folders from HDD and when I open empty project I need to relocate all the samples one by one. I'm lost, please help.

Repairing a damaged filesystem can cause individual files to disappear. Typically this happens when the filesystem damage prevents the system from figuring out for sure what the contents of those files should have been.

If this happens, your only recourse is to restore the files from backups (You do keep backups of everything, don't you?) or to reinstall the samples in question.

Hmm I don't think it's a solution, but thanks for the suggestion.

If you would look carefully at screenshoot I posted, you would see that there is DRUM MACHINE folder on the right(which ableton asked to relocate although directory is the same) The location of that folder is E:\SOUND LIBRARY\Drum Machines If you would look what's missing is HHOP.AIF from E: exactly the same location as it was, it didn't dissapeared, plays fine from browser, but Now I need to relocate each samples from HDD manually in all projects and it's a problem.

What makes you say that Live is asking to relocate the folder? I think it is saying that it cannot find the files that it is naming. If those files do exist, it is easy enough to tell Live where they are: Either use the search button or locate the files in the browser and drag them to the relevant locations in the "missing media" window on the right.

*PROBLEM SOLVED*

For some reason windows changed my external hard drive letter from D:/ to E:/ and I changed it back to D:/ with Disk Management. Boom! everything in place ableton projects loads with samples. Although I find it weird that when I manually relocated my sample folder ableton could recognize the new path but couldn't use the samples.
