Odd Phaser Sound On Warped Tracks

Post by Newcomer.band » Sat Apr 16, 2016 10:32 pm

Hey guys! I use Ableton to trigger long backing tracks for our live show. I record them in Logic and then bounce them down to an AIF file.

When I bring say a drum track into Ableton and warp it, it sounds fine. But when I trigger multiple warped tracks at the same time (ie drums, guitar, synth) they start to get this weird phaser-like sound.

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Why do you even warp them? How were these tracks recorded? If this was material recorded live, i e at the same time with multiple microphones you might have phase issues to solve.

If you need to warp tracks recorded at the same time with microphones you should do them all at once in Arrangement. Anything you do with time must affect all tracks equally if the have leakage information from other instruments on them. You also need to watch out with EQing individual tracks with similar information as EQing affects phase. You can often route around this by grouping those tracks and apply the EQ there.

Hey Stromkraft! I record all the drums digitally. I really notice this weird phase sound on the guitars the most. Coincidentally there is only 1 guitar playing and it was recorded with 1 mic so I don't think it's a phase issue.

It sounds fine in logic, and when solo'd in Ableton it sounds fine as well. But when I trigger the bass and the guitar tracks together it creates this weird phaser-like effect on the guitar track.

Does that make sense?
