New velocity/envelope settings in the new version?

I just realized that in any track I try to make with the newest version (9.6.1), adjusting note velocity or creating envelopes does absolutely nothing. Are there some new settings or something for getting this to work? I cannot figure out why it just suddenly isn't working.

Are you sure the device you're controlling is set up to respond to velocity? Some of the Simpler presets don't for instance.
