Terminology question - "focus"

Post by Omniand » Wed Jun 15, 2016 7:06 am

I was under the impression that "focus" referred to what was in the foreground so to speak. Like, a selected device becomes highlighted, brighter, but if you have clicked a clip up above in the clip launcher the device down below will be dimmer than if you've clicked somewhere in the device rack. So, when it's at that midrange brightness it's not focused on, but when you've clicked down in the rack it is.

I ask this, because in the Max API TrackView example included with M4L, it says that live.function select_instrument "Returns: 0=there are no devices to select. Selects track instrument or first device, makes it visible and focuses on it."

Which, I would think means that if you are in another track but hit the control, it will change the view to show that instrument on screen, and will be at that top level of brightness.

So, I take it I must be confused about something.

I should clarify, the patch mentioned does select the instrument, but doesn't move the screen to view it if you're off in another track. For me at least
