"FAMOUS MONSTERS by Cathode Ray Tube is both a continuation of his work and a stark departure from CRT’s usual melodic, beatbox driven, glitched out tracks where the drum machines take a backseat and the synths go quiet and cold CRT goes diving into deep, dark sonic lands. Famous Monster’s soundscapes are crafted from found sounds and home recordings then treated to a variety of electronic methods and treatments - experiments, some might say - that morph into dark, unsettling works. Tracks like “Deep Space Device,” “Join the Circus” and “You, You and You” throb like a monstrosity dragging itself through sludge filled sewers towards the faraway voices of drunken revelers. “The Enlightened No” weaves the sounds of scraped and tapped metal against short, tense arpeggiations and reverb drenched drones that lurch to the surface briefly if only to descend into the depths again. And there is light among all this darkness in tracks such as the album opener “Call to Error” and the off-kilter bleep of “Timeline B” but make no mistake: all these tracks are wrought from something deep and dark which lead you on a journey in, out, through and beyond their amorphous sonic territories..
