Roland MX-1, System-1, TR-8 and TB-3 into Live 9
Hey guys,
it's probably kind of a noobish question, but we just can't seem to figure it out ourself.
A friend of mine got the Roland MX-1, System-1, TR-8 and TB-3. What is the right way to connect them to Live 9? He wants to put the latter three into the MX-1 and then connect it with Live 9? Is that the way to go?
Help is very much appreciated!

Good one! I think this is how it would work. The MX 1 is a mixer, USB hub (for the Roland hardware) and an audio interface all in one. I think how you're doing it is correct - but you'll need to use the External Instrument plugin within Ableton to actually be able to control all of that goodness.
Within the plugin, there's a drop down which will allow you to select from all the equipment you guys have, and also another dropdown where you'll select the audio input (although that part I'm a little sketchy on since I think all the audio for you guys is zapped through the mixer USB).
Don't hold me to any of this though!

The thing with the MX1 is that it has different modes. I think we use the external mode in the studio and the tr8 connected with USB to it as well as the outputs.ArnoldPfirsich wrote:Hey guys,

You must run Live projects in 96kHz I'm pretty sure and remember to record with monitor "off" inside Live in most cases or audio will be late when recording (you'll have monitor in the MX1 so that's normal). I won't be in the studio for a few days so can't check the set up right now.

You don't.Stromkraft wrote:

You can set the desired sampling rate on the MX-1 and the rest of the Airas will follow. So 44.1, 48, etc. are all possible.

That's great. I'll see if I can try that tonight, if I find the time in session.Syver wrote:You don't.Stromkraft wrote:

Re: Roland MX-1, System-1, TR-8 and TB-3 into Live 9
First of all, thanks a lot for your kind help!
Now we managed to get Live to recognize the Mx-1 and the devices connected to it in the MIDI/Sync options.
We are trying to use the external instrument plugin and it seems to receive the midi information but it only triggers a preset piano sound in Live.
Obviously we'd like to have the sounds coming from the MX-1 to be hearable and recordable in Live.
Could it have something to do with the various ON/OFF settings for the midi ports (in the MIDI/Sync options) for each instrument?

Any luck with getting all your instruments on the tr 8 to ableton.
Im having same problem.
I want to be able to jam /play round and record anything i like into seperate tracks via the mx1.
Conected to the mx1 so far is the tr 8s, minilogue xd, tb-3 and vp 03. Can jam but cant find how to record each instrument from tr 8 s.
Will try the external instrument now..
