SOUND QUALITY COMPARISON

Post by GLJdrew » Tue Mar 14, 2017 1:15 am

Am I doing something wrong here?

When I play out of spotify and compare that to a song I imported it sounds way better in spotify. The stereo image is narrowed, and the clarity just isnt there...

I am playing spotify on my ipad >>>profire 610>>>ableton IN 1>>>profire 6110>>HS6

VS

Spotify>>>Profire 610>>>HS6

I have a converter which takes the 1/8" output from ipad and converts to 1/4"...could that be the reason?

"ableton in 1"
Of course you're getting a narrowed down stereo image, your monitoring a mono version of the sound when doing so. Try "ableton in 1/2".

Thank you for the reply. unfortunately it still only comes out in mono.
when you look at the meter on ableton it only shows input on left channel but master channel projects in stereo. i think the stereo 1/8" cable coming from the ipad into the profire is summed to mono in the adaptor. is that possible?

do you know if there are adaptors that keep it in stereo or do i need a splitter and go in profire 1 & 2

Thanks again,

Andrew

Then you only have left channel. Either it's there all the time or it's not. Follow and check the signal is always how you fix problems like what you describe. Just go one step at a time, like does it sound good and in stereo:
  • …at the source
  • …at the inputs before Live in the audio interface or software routings
  • …in the track before any effects
  • …in the track after any effects
  • …in the master track or buss track
  • …at the master outputs
if you lose a channel it must be at one of these points. Go backwards in the list.

Let me also add that recording from Spotify will never sound very well. Just buy the tracks in question from a lossless provider, like Beatport.com, trackitdown.net or juno.co.uk. Then there's no need to record.
Make some music!

Yes, the inputs at the Profire are mono.

Y-Splitter. Like this (other lengths available):
Cordial CFY 1.5 WPP - Thomann UK

Thank you, looks like the Y splitter is the answer.
