Recording Automation with Push 2

Hey Guys,

Can someone please clarify the process of recording automation using Push 2. I have been following instructions: make sure automation is lit , touch encoder wanting to automate , press record but it's recording automation but deleting the midi in the clip . What am I doing wrong?

Is overdub on? Also maybe see if the track is armed. If it is armed red, it may not be necessary as long as it is armed light red.

Is this arrangement view or session view?

just got push2
been reading manual and watching tutorials re automation

ive recorded a collision clip with parameter automation

ive created a new clip...I want new collision automation...but no automation can be recorded on this new clip for some reason

any tips?
