Live Vocal to MIDI conversion possible?

Post by craftycurate » Sat Jul 01, 2017 10:59 am

Hi

Does anyone know how I might accomplish the following, either using native Live functionality or with plugins etc:

1. Live vocal feed coming into Live
2. Extract MIDI note info from vocal input in real time

The rest I can do i.e. feed that MIDI input to an instrument or whatever. It's really just the first bit - extracting MIDI note information from a vocal feed. I know it can be done as a conversion, but the REAL TIME bit is vital as it's intended for use in a Live Performance.

I have Live 9 suite, on Win 7x64 Pro, so M4L solutions would be fine too.

Any tips appreciated!

Cheers
Richard

Sonivox announced a plugin called Pitch2MIDI back in 2016 but it has yet to ship.

There are some inexpensive hardware devices that convert pitch to MIDI in real time (meant for guitars, really) like Sonuus G2M which is $79 in the USA. It has a regular MIDI out so you need a MIDI interface for your computer to use it.

There's a video that shows a mike used with the G2M (ffwd to 5:30)

Thanks - I came across some of the guitar devices. Hoping I can find something that works within a Live workflow, so will check out the Sonivox plugin.

You could also try out Jam origin´s Midi guitar. See what the demo can do...

Cheers ...

Found an interesting way to convert a sung note into a chord, which is really what I want to do, using Live's Vocoder, feeding in the vocal and using a played polyphonic instrument as a carrier (or is it the other way round), but it works pretty well in terms of what I was after.
