Hey there.
I'm new to Ableton and I looked in the manual and online but couldn't find an answer.
When I click anywhere in the Arrange window, the little orange insert marker jumps to that position and I can start playback from there.
In the Midi editor, however, this does not work. When I click anywhere on the timeline it set the insert marker but playback start from elsewhere.
I know I can hit Option-Spacebar (Mac) and it'll start playing from the insert marker but then jumps back to the original position.
Why is the Insert marker behave differently in the Arrange and Midi editor?
Cheers

Select a clip in Arrangement view such that the entire clip is highlighted. Press play. The playhead starts at the beginning of the clip. Click in the clip editor timeline somewhere in the middle of the clip. Press the space bar. The clip begins at the start marker that's on the Arrangement Timeline.
If you want to start playback inside the clip editor at a specific point, click the scrub area which is just under the clip's loop braces. A little speaker shows up. When you click, it starts playing from there.
Same goes on the arrangement timeline.
If you want to define a new start point on the clip, in arrangement view, click somewhere in the body of the clip under the clip's color title bar, then press play. When you click in the Clip editor's timeline and press play again, your Arrangement view timeline start point will be changed to where you just put the playhead.

UPDATE: In Live 10 there is a "Multi-clip Title Bar and Scrub Area" at the top of the MIDI editor and clicking a location there will play back all parts from that location. It's not as good as what I was looking for, something linking the playback cursor in the Arragement view to where you click in the MIDI editor, but scrub area playback works.dogeatdogg wrote:Hey there.
