Akai mpk249 ableton integration
Akai mpk249 ableton integration
I'm Looking at this midi keyboard controller.
If anyone has one, does it allow session and scene navigation (red box)?

If you go to the inbuilt lessons, then select MIDI Controllers, there's links in there to show exactly what every controller can do through it's control surface...
Think it's a no...

dna 598,
Just don't... you won't be satisfied. I have an MPK261 and currently doing e-mail tags with Ableton customer support.
First of all, automapping won't work on neither the MPK249 & MPK261 (not sure about the 225). To make the previous two work, you will have to set the control surfaces to the older MPK49/MPK61, but that will bring up another issue. I had nothing but trouble with this keyboard + Live and planning to sell it for a less expensive Novation controller. Ironically, after trying the demo version of Bitwig it automapped perfectly... ironically, because it's sold with Ableton Live Lite and mass-advertised as the perfect keyboard controller for Live.
Overall it's a fantastic keyboard and you likely won't find another keyboard with such high quality materials in it's price range. Pads, keys, faders, knobs are all great. Just a tiny LCD screen showing you bare minimum information, and the rest are seen in Ableton during its usage. So it's quite a purist controller, and it would be the bomb if it worked as advertised... if you're the kind of "run and gun" person who just wants to load up Ableton and continue a project, or create a new one right away (mouse free), then hands down the best (would be) controller under 1500 or even 2k. It's a purist like a 40 years old Porsche 911.
However, you can only stare at this Porsche because it doesn't have the keys.....AKAI points fingers at Ableton, then Ableton points fingers at AKAI. I recommend avoiding the 49 & 61 key versions of the MPK series at all costs.

Re: Akai mpk249 ableton integration
Thanks for the replies guys
I really wish ableton would just make a keyboard version of Push, with real pitch and mod wheels, and without this annoying workflow problem.
viewtopic.php?f=55&t=223984
anyway...
If anyone has any recommendations for 61 key controller with aftertouch and good ableton integration i'm all ears.

A guy on the Remotify forum has been building a redbox / navigation midi script for the MPK249.
Maybe you could collaborate with him: https://remotify.io/community/question/ ... ack-images
Need selected track control, or red box functionality?

Oh oh oh oh oh. I want.
I love Push 2 - but I just can't get my head around the "keyboard'!
Re: Akai mpk249 ableton integration
Novation Impulse, although it's been out for a while now and Novation may have a replacement in the wings. It's currently on a $50 off promotion in the USA until the send of Sept. 2017, for a street price of $350.dna598 wrote:If anyone has any recommendations for 61 key controller with aftertouch and good ableton integration i'm all ears.
Download the manuals here to read about the native Live support.
-- Clip launch similar to Launchpad but only 8 pads, all in same scene
-- Scene navigation and launch
-- 8 encoders map to racks, devices, panning and sends A-D (more than four sends not supported)
-- mute and solo for 8 tracks at a time plus the master
-- record arm only through track selection, multiple track arming not supported
-- faders, buttons, encoders and pads visible to Max
Re: Akai mpk249 ableton integration
In case anyone is still finding this thread I made a workaround script to fix the issue with device automapping. For some reason the MPK225 has automap correctly, but no one bothered to set it up on the 249 or the 261. It's posted up here: https://gist.github.com/mlegore/477741b ... 2c02de0974

Re: Akai mpk249 ableton integration
Hello out there
I have a Akai MPk249 keyboard and like it a lot.Bought for the build quality, nice weighted keys etc
So I tend not to use my keyboard,to integrate with Live,as I know it does not play well sadly. However, its great for just mapping Vst etc inside Ableton.
Lots of uses for this keyboard, just need to think outside the box, the keyboard in this case ,he,he
I use Novations Launchpad S and Launchcontrol too.You can't have enough knobs, buttons and faders right?,lol
Just need some keyboards playing lessons now

Using the script and it’s great. But I cannot seem to lock control surface onto device so that it maintains the controls when I’m focused elsewhere in the session. Anyone figured this part out?
Re: Akai mpk249 ableton integration
Right click with mouse on header of device?

Re: Akai mpk249 ableton integration
I followed this thread and did some work to get the MPK249 working nicely with Ableton 11, so I thought I'd share!
If you have an MPK249 and want the encoders to apply to the device and follow track selection, use this script:
https://gist.github.com/asselstine/7b6f ... 8e9139539e
Instructions are in the file.
The big change was that device_selection_follows_track_selection was refactored for Ableton 11. I dug through the other scripts and found an example. It works nicely now!
Enjoy!

Re: Akai mpk249 ableton integration
I came here to say thank you. I just upgraded from my MPK49 to the MPK249, and was having an issue with the knobs controlling the selected device. This works perfectly!Poolman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 5:01 pmI followed this thread and did some work to get the MPK249 working nicely with Ableton 11, so I thought I'd share!

Another person said to select the MPK88 as the Control Surface dropdown, which that too, also works, but I am not sure it if all the buttons and knobs work as expected.
