Control Ableton with a MIDI controller (Madeon live set)

Post by Wakeon » Sat Sep 16, 2017 5:50 pm

Hey friends,
Need your help today! Indeed, I have to make a DJ Set next week end, and i want to control my ableton live library's songs with my midi controller (XoneK2) to load songs without use mouse or keyboard - I saw it was possible to make something like that cause Maiden did that in his sets.
I also saw Bome Midi Translator did that but I don't know how to use that at all :/ I tried this week but I didn't understand this application.

Hope you could help me
Thx :)

Loading soongs on the fly isn't practical, just preloaded the tracks to clips.

I would recommend to use traktor if you are just going to mix tracks, you are going to invest a lot of time do the same in Live.

Yes i understand but all my effects (ableton effects and vet's) are mapped to my launchpad, and to my XoneK2, and all my set is ready - i want just add songs in my set with my XoneK2
I saw it was possible

I used to run the abletonlivedj.com forums, and I’ve never seen a way to load songs without using a mouse in Live. Perhaps there’s a M4L device that can do this, but it’s not possible using just a standard Live install.

Its possible with Bomes as you illuded to.

Bomes has the ability to run a program from a MIDI signal so you could either get it to load an Ableton set when launched or run a script that would launch the file.

The latter would be the better way because I assume when you load a file Live will ask if you want to save the old one requiring a mouse click. Using a simple script you could automate all that and load a file.

It would work but depends on the level of setup you want to go before hand.
