I did some searching and found that newer hardware (2016 and later) is optimized for 4k. My 2015 macbook pro 15 is still a bit laggy with ableton's UI in 4k (zooming in and out while playback). This is a problem as it gets worse as the computer gets hotter throughout the day.
I did some searching and can't find a clear answer to if the 2016 or newer 13 or 15 inch macbook pros can run ableton on a 4k screen with no lag. It's a bit of a rabbit hole of technical information.
Please confirm if you have the 2016 or newer macbooks and which model.
Thanks in advance
Are the 2016 and newer macs better at running ableton in 4k?

Are you referring to an external display running 4k? Because none of the Apple laptop displays support 4k as far as I know, the widest they are is 2880 pixels.

External 4k not the laptop screen
