Why does the Roland TR-8 not play in real time or record in

Post by Kid Blast » Mon Feb 19, 2018 8:55 pm

I have my TR-8 set up as the audio device, but it will not play in real time or record in real time. When I try to compensate for the latency with the Track Delay, I get it set right and then a few seconds later, or if I’m lucky a whole minute later it suddenly jumps out of time and needs resetting again – why is this? My Live 10 Preferences say that the TR-8 has 5.33ms of latency (see below) - in some instances when I have adjusted the Track Delay by 5ms it has worked, but usually it doesn't and just when I get it set right, it jumps again and has to be reset.

I realise that I once I have recorded audio in, I can warp it back into time, but I want to be able to have the TR-8 running as a live instrument, rather than recording a clip in for every sound - I want to be able to play it live in real time and record it in time, and I want to be able to jam it alongside midi clips playing sounds from Analog or Operator. See image of recorded loop below for timing of recording through TR-8 audio device.

Can't you use miditimecode to sync the TR to Live? That way they should run in time with each other.

So make a sync out in the midi pain of the preferences for the TR, and set the TR itself as slave.
