Hard Drive for Recording and Sample Libraries 2018 Edition

Post by SkipBop89 » Tue Apr 24, 2018 4:37 am

Hi everyone,

So, there are numerous posts all over the web about this topic, but almost all of them pre date the incredible speeds we are working with now.

I'm looking at getting a G-drive pro Thunderbolt 2tb drive. It is a RAID 0 with 4 2.5 drives, and has speeds around 480mb read p/s. So its a bout as fast as a good SSD.

With speeds like that, traveling over thunderbolt, is there any issue with using that as both my audio record drive and sample library drive (NI Komplete, Ableton Suite, etc)?

For years the common knowledge has been that those two should be on separate drives, but with these speeds does it really matter? Or is speed not the only issue at play here?

Any insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated!
