loop recording wishes...

Post by h2ogun99 » Mon Jul 11, 2005 11:20 pm

All of my music involves vocals. I love how I can loop an area in Live and then sing till my hearts content...all in one clip. The only thing that slows vocal workflow is that I now have a very long single clip that contains all my vocal takes. I would love to have Live create a new clip for every loop pass. This way I have ten clips for ten takes...

something tell me this can be done, am I wrong?

don't think it can be done in Live that I know of. the only suggestion I have is that if you are recording to Live's tempo, and the looped part is defined by the arranger grid, it should be fairly easy to chop up the long clip into appropriate sized pieces by using ctrl-e to split the clip at the appropriate grid intervals. You probably already know this, but it shouldn't take more than a minute to cut one clip into 10 pieces this way.

Lance, if you're on a mac, you should check out the free musolomo plugin, it will do that for you, automatically, I think.

thanks!!!

No I am in PC-land.

Yes it is not unbarrable to cut the clip up....let me explain how I do it and your wisdom might help me speed up the process.

I record the long vocal clip. I then make many copies of that clip. I locate the vocla takes I like (one per copy and put loop makers around them). Is there a better way?...I am sure there is :)

yeah, try this. Take one version of the long clip, drop it in a track in arragerview. Lets say this track was recorded at the tempo set in Live, and that the loop you recorded over an over was 2 measures long, and you recorded ten passes through it. In arrangerivew, you could cut that one long clip into 10 equal pieces using the grid as your guide, and ctrl-e to split along the grid line. You could then rename each clip in the clip view (if you want), but at this point you have ten short clips from your one long clip. Sounds like you've been working strictly in session view--you can always bring these clips back there, but for certain things arrangerview can help save time.

that is perfect!

I thought in order for it to loop over a selected area and record as long as I needed, it must be in session, but I will try in arrange view.

Thanks!

I think you could do it in either. you could still record the way you do in session if it is more comfortable, then just copy or drag the long clip you record over to the arrangerview for slicing it up.
