Lag

Post by mojojoyo » Sat Jun 02, 2018 7:26 am

I'm new to music production, and have only been doing it for a few months. Live 9 was working great and so was Live 10 until about a week ago. It started to lag on me, ill be EQing or clicking around to do other things. The sound of the MIDI or sample will change in real time with what I am doing but it takes time for the screen to catch up. Please HELP, THANK YOU.

Probably the fact you are running on linux. Live doesn't support linux very well!

Sorry, had to have a stab at what you are running things on. Please let me know if I have that wrong and maybe detail your specs to help us out a bit. Could even throw in details of your audio interface, hardware specs, video card model, specific Live version etc. Might help.

No worries at all, I need help and like I said I am new to this I just want to learn. If I need to change something on my minimal setup then I would like to know thanks. These are the hardware specs and I have Live 10 suite

Intel Core i7 7th gen @2.80GHz
RAM is 16G
64bit x 64-based processor
Windows 10

Thank you and be gentle for I am a noob.

What kind of monitor are you using? Regular or 4K?

That's all good. Kind of becomes a drag saying "what are your system specs" 76 times a day. Not sure why so many people forget to include things like that when saying things aren't working. Almost like asking a mechanic "help, my cars stopped working, what's the problem you think".

It could be related to the 4k display. I know the compatibility with 4k displays in Live is still in its baby stages and I'm not game enough yet to upgrade. Check if the hi-dpi setting (or whatever it is) is enabled in your prefs.

Also I note you did not list any audio interface. Are you running the built-in cans on a string (on-board audio)? If so, do you have ASIO4ALL drivers or have I lost you? Could be audio related. I'm a windows user and haven't noticed any "lag" issues, just a weird flickering timeline counter when in follow mode.

Thought so, the issue with lagging GUI's on Windows 4K is known and on the radar.

For now, we're all in the same boat, there's no user workaround of fix available.

Yes you have lost me in the audio interface part but the driver type is MME/Direct X. For now I am ALWAYS using headphones while working with Live, I have little ones running around. I just disabled the HiDPI. Have not noticed a difference yet, I will update. Thank you.

Having the same problem on my PC (Windows 7, i7 CPU, 16gb RAM, Acer Monitor (not 4k AFAIK), NVIDIA graphics card. Seems to have only started since the update a few days ago, it's making Live more or less unusable. Used to be a CPU issue but only showing max 20% on different projects

Edit: lag only seems to occur when moving blocks in arrange window, changing parameters or making any other adjustments, seems to scroll fine when I'm just letting it play.

Yeah that is the windows built-in audio card driver and it not suitable for live audio applications such as Live but it's not pertinent to this issue so I won't even go there since your knowledge level isn't at that stage yet. You will soon discover issues with crackling audio, large delays and dropouts. When you hit those issues, it will be the fact you are using those drivers, windows and your fragile inbuilt audio card.
