Temporarily disable MIDI input

Post by 8E » Tue Feb 12, 2019 11:07 am

Is there any way, a shortcut, to temporarily disable MIDI inputs?
Sometimes I want to check something on my keyboard, without it actually going through Live.
Ideas?

MIDI input is only on tracks currently in focus and armed. So mute or disarm the track(s).

Sadly this isn't an option if you use certain Controllers and want to automate those tracks, the unarm doesn't work when it is controlled by controller scripts like those of Push or Launchkeys. Controller scripts controlled arm appears light / bright red instead of full red. On Push you can at least switch the view which causing an unarm. This especially matters if you want to record automations on existing clips in arrangement view. If the track is armed you create always a cut in a midi clip even with arrangement overdub enabled. In theory this shouldn't overwrite existing notes, but sometimes it still deletes them or affects single notes even without any note inputs. The easiest option is to select "no input" but a toggle shortcut to switch between the last selected option like "All ins" and "no input would be nice. Btw. selecting no input doesn't affect the ability to automate via midi cc controls.
