Can't set exact BPM

Post by Mr D » Wed Mar 06, 2019 12:15 pm

Hi folks,

I'm unable to set an exact BPM (like 100.5).

Am i supposed to be able to double click and enter a numerical value? If so, i can't do it.

Neither in the latest Live, or the beta 10.1

In fact i can't enter numerical values anywhere in Live. Is that in theory possible?

If so, something seems broke.

Any ideas? ........ Thanks!

I dont know the answer so replying here is probably not the greatest idea, but my first thought is that the difference between 100 bpm and 101 bpm is so small, why not just choose one of those tempos?

You don't even need to double-click, just clicking it and typing 100.5 should work.

In the new beta if you want to type in BPM values, or any other automation values :
  1. Switch to Automation in Arrangement (A)
  2. in the master channel choose "tempo"
  3. Right-click the BPM automation line and choose the contextual-menu item "Edit Value"
  4. Type in the value directly on the automation line
  5. Say "holy shit, it does this now?!!"
  6. Look at the automation and feel tears of joy roll down your face, fall to your knees, try to explain to your spouse why you are so emotional right now

Where exactly are you typing this bpm value?

Is this for the Global Tempo?

Yes, for global tempo. It's entered where I described: directly on the automation line in the master channel. Right click the line, edit it by typing into the little black box which appears floating on the line.

Only in the 10.1 betas

I don't think it doesn't work in the standard version. The code in question should be the same in both versions. I think you're doing something wrong here.

It should be clear that you like the Melda stuff better than the stock Ableton instruments. After all, you paid for them, so they must be better, right? Are they really better?

The rendering probably only doesn't sound good with you. Here it sounds TOP.

Your completely unnecessary comment says a lot about you. I'll refrain from giving my opinion.

Regards

Gral

Just in case no one ever figured this out: in Live you don't double-click on the BPM value, you just click it once, so it is high-lighted. Then you can type in your desired value. Double-click in fact resets the tempo to the default 120 bpm.

As the original post is more than 5 years old, I'm assuming that the "issue" has been solved... 😉
