faderfox via usb...delays?

Post by dayverinton » Mon Jul 18, 2005 12:18 pm

i'm using a G3 powerbook with live.4
before i programmed the keyboard to control the functions i used a usb mouse....this produced delays and drop-outs at times.as i am about to buy a faderfox lv1, can anyone tell me if i will experience the same problem, especially after having to use a midi/usb interface....???
would the firewire port be any better?
thanks

I think firewire would definitely be better but its expensive & im sure you could use usb. Is it a driver problem? Are using asio drivers?
Sorry i dont know much about macs but ive never experienced that kind of thing when i have used the with music equipment.

I could be wrong but I think they specifically use standard mi with the intention of having several connect as one device. Also they are battery powered. and not through means of usb/firewire. But that dosent mean they cant transmit data through. I just wouldn't assume it is all.

You'll only experience dropouts and crackle when your Live set is near CPU overload....., for instance, when moving the crossfader.
But when you've got enough headroom CPU-wise, working the Faderfoxes won't lead to glitches.

i've got powerbook 750 g3 firewire with 348mb ram....it just seems to work smoother with the key control.....i just don't want to spend my money if the results are not up to what i expect.still, can't see anyone on the forum with serious problems with the lv1.....so i'll just have to get the money together.anyone know anywhere (in europe) to get one cheaper????
thanks to all for your help....

I don't understand this thread. Faderfox controllers are not usb and not firewire. They have a standard midi jack and there are no drivers.

I think it mainly depends on whether your Live set is too much for your computer... When mine is loaded with too many plug-ins and instruments, I get dropouts... it's that simple.

that computer sounds petty weak. I mean I know there are some guys on here with older comps, but damn. I think you better just spend the cash for an update before you go spendin money on faderfoxes.
