Is Live 10 a viable video playback software option for live shows?

I'm still on 9, planning on upgrading shortly.

I'm not a video guy, so it's possible I've been 'doing it wrong.' But, I've never found Live to be good at playing back smooth video clips. I would love to be wrong about this. I'm putting together cues for a show, and Live is great for audio, routing options, and lights. But what about video clips sent to a projector and screen?
