Me and a friend ended up developing an app that makes bringing NI kits into Ableton quite easy. It converts the Maschine drum kits into .adg drum racks automatically. It won't have the live processed synth instruments that Maschine software has in it of course, but the kit (.wav) samples will turn into Ableton presets (most sounds in Maschine kits are .wav files).

This is more of a drum kit focused solution for people that want to work completely in Ableton without another VST. Your routing method requires more setup and an external VST, but your method would have access to the synths and instruments inside Maschine. So it depends on the user preference, since we all work differently
I personally use this method for my Maschine kits inside of Ableton, and then use Komplete Kontrol VST for my NI synths and instruments
