"Mute/Deactivate Notes" greyed out

Looking to deactivate a couple of notes that I don't need on a sub bass instrument. I think the easiest way is to deactivate in the MIDI clip, unless someone knows a better way? Anyhow, that option is not available (grey) in my piano roll. Any insight here? Thanks!
