Cores vs GHz speed for new computer
I’m getting a new Mac. On my MacBook Pro now when I use a Arturia reverb, serum And UH-e diva etc. on a couple of tracks it brings it to its knees I have a ssd drive, 32gig ram, i9 processor and 6 cores. If I get a new Mac what is more important, the amount of cores or the speed of the computer. I see the new Mac Pros hav 12,16,24 cores but the speed slows down when the more cores are used.

Re: Cores vs GHz speed for new computer
Answer... it depends...
The whole reason there are different CPU models is because they are useful for different applications. Ableton will use the cores available to spread the load of tracks over each core so each track will be designated a process which means if you want many tracks you want more cores in your system.
However, if you like to design heavily layered and complex synthesis using multiple instruments layered on a single track and heavy processing effects then you may benefit from higher clock speeds and less cores.

Re: Cores vs GHz speed for new computer
Thanks for the help. From my experience you can only do one vsti instrument on a track so I can’t layer the way you mentioned with multiple instruments on one track. I would have to have more tracks. Is there a way to layer more instruments on one track?
Also I can freeze tracks to help with the cpu. But the problem is when I group tracks and have heavy cpu plugins. I can’t freeze them so I’m stuck
Is there a way to freeze a group so the plugin load diminishes? Plus returns with heavy cpu plugins like Arturia effects. I can’t freeze them either.

Re: Cores vs GHz speed for new computer
Just create an instrument rack and drag as many instruments as you like on there. I don't really do this much because it loads down a tracks processing, if I need to layer i'd do it over multiple tracks and group them.
