Drifting out of pitch??

Post by brian sansone » Sun May 24, 2020 10:05 pm

Ok ive been stuck for an hour trying to figure this out.
It seems that abletons instruments, on a particular project im working on are drifting out of tune??
Ive tried several different instruments, and any setting that may effect pitch.

I loaded up an operator, on its own track, then opened an electric organ "wurli5" on its own track,
played my clips, and the pitch drifted, bad. You can hear the waw waw waw sound of notes not being quite together.
Then I just wrote out single notes in each instrument. A and it drifted bad.
Ive been using ableton for years. Many times the same instruments over and over. Ive never had this issue.

I just went back and tinkered with it. Its operator, drifting in and out of pitch, badly. I recorded it. No effects. Just a straight triangle wave, nothing modulating. You can see it on the spectrum, waving back and forth.

What in the world?
Hopefully someone has an answer

Maybe the pitchwheel on some MIDI controller started malfunctioning?

That sounds like a good suggestion.

When you record the midi clip, you mention it also records the pitch drift. Have you checked to see if any midi automation is being recorded with the clip?

What about if you disconnect all controllers and play the clip?
