Some old Focusrite interfaces are not supported anymore for drivers.
Some old Focusrite interfaces are not supported anymore for drivers.
Yesterday after an update from Windows 10 pro, my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 stopt working decently. It is an old firewire based interface which worked perfectly for me. Now it changes samplerate every second or does not lock at all, sometimes it does at 32 bit/96 Khz and then unlocks again.......
Some googling learned me, it is not supported anymore as are some other older interfaces. So if you have an older Focusrite interface going crazy, first check if it is still supported before you get yourself into a lot of faultfinding and checking things!
I was lucky in a way, support stopped at Win 10 -1903 and it kept working way into 1909 updates, but now it's gone.
I have now ordered a new Focusrite: a Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen USB-C interface, so I can use it for several years to come. But still it is kind of a waiste that my old interface is fine but stops working for this software reasons........
Just to let you know......

Focusrite and novation have a bit of history with not supporting products
I get the commercial side of it new products= New income etc but surely on a landfill/electronic waste issue there needs to be a consumer law to support the products you sell for at least a specified amount of time

Yeah, I'm going to write an Email to Focusrite. They should support it longer, the product is in working order, it is only software/firmware that needs to be maintained. It is a waiste of resources and the enviroment! That should be taken in consideration, it is 2020!!!!

Thats one thing with Interfaces and Computers. There eventually becomes a time when they stop getting support.
I have a Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen. I would hope support lasts a great bit since USB is fairly standard but I've seen companies drop USB products as well (even when they seemed to be working fine beforehand), so it is always a weird feeling.
I just hope they aren't doing the planned obsolescence to get people to buy new products. I think some companies like RME continue to support their products though and alot of their interfaces will have USB as well as Firewire or Thunderbolt, to sort of "Futureproof" it. But RME are very expensive interfaces though.

I hope it will last me a great number of years.........
Installed the 18i20 today, and did some testdriving, and it sounds good to me! It's slightly more clear, and the basses or more tight and deeper than my old Saffire.
Yep, companies will like to make money though I guess. But in the end they have to wake up and see that environment and resources are important too!
And surely my resources run dry financially LOL. For me it is all about having fun, and I'm no pro. So it has to be in proportion.
That said, Focusrite is unrivaled in value for money I think. The control software is friendly too, especially compared to the old control software from my Saffire Pro 40.

Re: Some old Focusrite interfaces are not supported anymore for drivers.
Have your tried installing the drivers in windows 7compatibility mode?
That used to work for my old Echo Audiofire which does not have W8/10 drivers

Did not try that, but I want my setup so I can work without worries everytime, so I bought the new Scarlett 18i20 3rd gen - and it works like charm - even sounds better! But thanx for sticking out to me!!!
