Post by DjRedd » Sat Jul 23, 2005 4:50 pm

Just was courious about the new Live 5 demo. What limitations does it have, and how long can you use it. Thanks.

You can use it as long as you want. But any saving is disabled. But don't touch it if you don't have the money. Because you're going to want to buy it.

Yeah, but I wish they had a 30-day-trial with saving enabled. The last beta is running out tomorrow, I have a promising remix I'm working on and there's no way I could afford Live 5 before August. Live 5 is just mind blowing, and I don't care if I sound like a fanboy.

Hmm thats true, but see, I get allot of Dj equipment from AmericanMusical.com. If you have a credit or bank card, they can charge it every 3 months for a certain amount. They have Ableton Live 5 and they will charge $133 for 3 months. Its the box version though. Thats how I got my M-Audio card and other DJ gear.

Strange, my last beta expires on the 26th?

Anyway. Every software company has its own demo concept.

Ableton's is very fair.

Ableton's policy of public beta testing is great, their upgrade offers are more than fair -- I'd say all of this adds considerably to the hype. And most of all, Live 5 is just a breeze to work with and keeps surprising and inspiring me all the way. Just to make clear, I'm not blaming Ableton for anything here... it's not their fault that I can't afford Live at the moment.

As for the beta version, I only made it to b19, next time I checked the release version was out.

I think the policy of Live is that if you're out for doing a gig or so but your pc crashes, you can install the demo version on someone else's pc and run a backup of your set (always bring a backup) using this demo version.
