Reverse Channels of Interface's Inputs

Post by LemonEar » Fri Jul 10, 2020 5:31 am

My main interface is a UA Apollo. The Hi-Z input is channel 1 and the input I use for the mic is channel 2. Occasionally I use an old M-audio because it's bus powered and I need to practice live looping somewhere. So in those instances it's fine that I'm not using my UA for best quality cuz it's just a travel guitar, etc. to keep the practice up.

The problem is that the M-audio has the mic input as channel 1 and the Hi-Z as channel 2. I'd like to reverse them so that they match my UA Apollo. Yes, I could just change it and rely on myself not to be forgetful (and frankly a bit dopey) and end up wasting time wondering why I'm not getting a signal when I am back on my normal setup. But I can't rely on myself for that...

It would just be easier if they were the same. Anyone know how to make this happen? I've tried poking around in the Audio MIDI Setup app, and can't figure it out. Might need more poking under the hood than I am capable of.

Naming the inputs in Live’s preferences might help, depending on whether it retains the settings when you change interface or not.
Live 10 Suite, 2020 27" iMac, 3.6 GHz i9, MacOS Catalina, RME UFX, assorted synths, guitars and stuff.

I've done that, and it does retain what I have named the inputs. This can help me notice what input I have selected, so that when I'm back to my main interface I can see what's going on. I am not able to attach the image from my Preferences, but it does not allow me to reverse them, as it were. In Preferences>Input Config, it only lets me select and rename them, not change how they route.

I want input 1 to be the Hi-Z on the m-audio, and input 2 to be the mic, so that it matches the UA instead of being the opposite.
