keep clip playing at recorded tempo.

Post by Peter Klank » Sun Jul 12, 2020 5:44 pm

I am searching and breaking my head over something, so I will ask here..

For mixing songs when I play live, I record everything into a clip, crossfade to the clip, and then I can change everything (mostly hardware boxes) to the new song. Then I can play with some filters and send fx, and crossfade back to the "live" channels for the new song. A DJ kind of way...

This works perfectly well when mixed songs are close in tempo, but I am preparing a longer set with a few waves from chill out to "dance". And I have to mix some songs with wildly varying tempos (like from 75 to 105 bpm)

I want to do this by having 1 song without rhytmic elements, so I can bring in another song at a different tempo, but I can't figure out how to do this in Live. I have max for live if this helps...

So basically I want to record a clip that keeps on looping at the recorded tempo while I change Ableton Live's tempo. And without having to change things after the clip is recorded (computer is not in front of me when playing)

Am I missing something obvious? or does anyone knows a way to do this?

so you'll say that the clip is too short to play as a one shot because you need more time to set up the hardware. that's up to you to figure out or come back with another question.
Indeed, I like a nice and slow transition between songs. hence my original question...

You understood correctly, I want my recorded clip to keep on looping at 90bpm (in your example), while I change the tempo to 120bpm.
Just as if I would turn off a deck's sync in Traktor, or freewheeling as you will...

Maybe there is a max for live device that does this, maybe there is another way to do this?

Problem solved!

I kept looking at clips, while the looper was all I needed :) you can turn of sync in the looper, while it records quantized.

Perfect :)
