New Live user here. I was wondering what the CPU overhead (if any) was for placing VST/VSTis inside of racks versus leaving them in the device view alone. I really want to start building up my Live library by moving over my favorite presets and VSTs into racks so I can use them with Push 2, but didn't want to spend all the time doing this if containing devices inside of racks adds a nontrivial strain to my computer.
One of the reasons I was hesitating to move all my presets to Komplete Kontrol was for the same reason; as Komplete Kontrol actually runs an "emulation" of the plugin which adds some CPU overhead that some users complain about.
Instrument/Effect Rack CPU Overhead?
Re: Instrument/Effect Rack CPU Overhead?
no, not really.
but under the hood Live does process things on a track by track basis so I guess maybe there's a difference but I've never come against it.

Never noticed any CPU overhead for Racks in my ancient Duo Core Pentium desktop, whatever CPU overhead they may have is negligible, unless you use a CPU even older and worse than a Pentium.
