Clicks / pops / audio dropout in V5.01

Post by MJL » Sun Jul 24, 2005 2:44 am

hello all,
been using V4.14 with great success ( m-audio revolution 7.1 soundcard, AMD XP 2800 chipset, 1G RAM ) and just installed the 5.01 update. Under 4.14 was using ASIO drivers with very low latency, however 5.01 is now full of clicks / pops / audio dropout. If i select MME / DirectX drivers the problems are less, but still there. anyone else experiencing issues like this?

Same problems:
Centrino 1.7, oxygen, 1 gb ram...
Live 4.1.4 works perfect...
Live 5.0.1 is really slow, doesn't seem to react as quick enough but worst:
it produce sometime really harsh and unespected sound dropouts and distortions.
I can predict when, but with playing with the plugins and if I think when you have a frequency param (phaser f.i. it drops always when you play with the frequencies).
The sound overload makes live 5.0.1 unusable especially if you have active speakers wired directly on the output of the soundcard...

Did you try to trash your preferences?

Same problems here. Two systems, one with a Digi 002 and one using Apple coreaudio on an iBook.

Just ran a track that was hitting 71%cpu with no probs in Live 4 at 512 buffer. Tried it on 5 (after resaving whole file as a Live 5 set) and it was running HUGELY slow and distorted, even though the meter read only 64%. Then when I uppped the buffer to 2048 the midi tracks were way behind the beat.

Can't use ADC on my iBook as it hogs the cpu like anything.

Getting clicks recorded to disk on my 002. (this situation not helped by a misguided attempt to give Digi the benefit of the doubt by downloading latest Digi coreaudio resulting in the midi i/o now non-operational...that one in Digi's court now)

Halfway though a new track started on Live 5 on my iBook and it crashes every time I play it.

Not having a great time. And Live 4 was sooo painless.

G4 DP 1.25 10.3.4, 1.25RAM,Lacie D2, Digi002 Coreaudio 6.9(was 6.7) Live 4.14, Live 5.

iBook 800m 10.3.9. 640RAM, internal HD, Apple coreaudio plus M-audio USB MobilePre if I can ever get the machine to run properly to record anything into it again...

yeah i'm getting bad dropouts etc on a cpu hungry set, plus the render isnt working properly (panned + flamming drums), neither does freeze do what I need (i.e. freeze the multi outputs of Battery + Kontakt) - so I have no choice but to start recording all my VSTi's ... which i'll have to do anyway at some point.

Hi folks,

a first note, when deleting the preferences please only delete the Preferences.cfg file and not any kind of folder. otherwise Live 5.0.1 would restore the old preferences.

Furthermore when comparing between Live 4 and Live 5, please check if you have the same Audio / MIDI setup.

ozone7,
can you send me the Live set (only the .als, no samples, zipped if possible)
which runs at 71% in Live 4 and with 64% in Live 5?

Is the crash on your iBook reproducible?
Can you send me the Live crash log from your iBook?
/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Live.crash.log

When mailing me, please let me know your forum name and a link or the name of this thread too.

patrickstas and MJL,
Have you tried to delete the preferences.cfg. Does it make a difference then?
If not, what do you do to get this slowly behavior?
Do you open a certain Live set?
do you have a certain Live set

regards,
Alex

Just to be up to date....

The problem appeared to be largely due (as correctly diagnosed by Alex) to the CamelAudio plug CamelSpace I was running.

Camel have given me a pre-release version which seems to have cured the crashing and distorted audio issue (phew - thanks everyone). However, there now seems to be an issue with saving AU patches with the Live 5 set. Over to Camel Audio.

Meanwhile I'm still getting clicks on my Digi 002 and (of course ) i've had no help yet fixing the busted midi in their Coreaudio. Hoorah.
