UVI Workstation Integration as VST Plugin

Post by Meteora33 » Wed Sep 09, 2020 9:31 am

Hi there,

I cannot integrate the UVI Workstation to show up in Live 10 as a plug-in VST. There is no real helpful answer in the internet. I can’t find the dll data from UVI in my windows pc anywhere. Has anyone an answer to solve this problem? Many thanks

Can you provide more info? I use several of the UVI Workstation collections (especially the Tines Anthology for Fender Rhodes sounds). The fix might be reinstalling UVI Workstation and then selecting a specific location for installation, rather than the default.

Thanks for your answer. Pleas tell me, witch information you need? I had installed UVI before I bought Ableton, and so UVI workstation was is installed in programs in my PC in a default folder. With copying this folder in the VST folder of Ableton where I have other functionable plugins, UVI doesn’t show up. With my knowledge I don’t understand how UVI works without a dll data in its folder, or is it because I had to reinstall it into the VST folder of Ableton? Thanks for your help.

Yeah, that makes sense. The .dll file would not normally be installed in the program file of the plugin. Because UVI was installed some time before Live, Live can't find the .dll, which was tossed in some unknown location.

I can't remember specifically, but UVI Workstation might be one of those programs that will bypass the "Customize" feature if it finds a copy already installed. I would uninstall UVI (you don't have to uninstall your soundbanks), then reinstall it and make sure you tell the installer to put the vst in your Ableton Live vst folder. The UVI program will still install in "Program Files" by default (assuming you're on Windows), and the dll will get installed wherever you told it to.

Assuming you're on a 64-bit Windows system, the file you're looking for is "UVIWorkstationVSTx64.dll", in case you want to search your drives a bit more before you reinstall.

I understand everything and I try this exactly that way you told me today evening. And thank you for giving me the hint about the soundbanks within UVI, that saves me a lot of time. I tell you later if this works. What you told me about the dll data I have tried before by searching my whole pc with various searching methods and I searched exactly about the
"UVIWorkstationVSTx64.dll" (i have a 64Bit System) data and found nothing. I thought, when I find the dll data, maybe there is no need to reinstall the UVI workstation. But that’s not a big problem I think. One more question, my Folder for VST2 plug-ins is the native instruments folder because it was the first plugin, and in this folder there are the VST32 and VST64 folder where I now put my other plugins inside, because otherwise I had to create a custom folder an put all the dll stuff inside together with the native instrument stuff. What ist your way to put all the plugins in one folder? What I also don’t understand is the fact, that I have reason as a plug-in and spitfire, and these two plugins are found at vst3 in Ableton but if I change the location folder and press the „newscan“ Button nothing good or bad happens. This two VST3 plugins work always my vst3 folder location, no matter what folder I take in ableton. that’s ok for me but if I what to create also a custom folder for this VST3 plugins in the future, I have a new problem when Ableton maybe didn’t find the location.

Yeah, vst3's are different. They are standardized to install in a specific folder that Live understands. Unfortunately, UVI Workstation is not yet available as vst3.

vst2's don't follow any particular standard. Live only allows one custom vst folder (although that folder can have subfolders). On my setup, I force all my vst2 .dll's to install in a common folder under "Documents/Ableton/VSTPlugins". This is the same folder area where Live installs Factory Packs and the User Library, so it's a convenient place to put your vst folder too.

For Native Instruments, you can move the Native Instruments .dll's to the new vst folder, then open the Native Access app. Native Access will show that your Native Instruments plugins have been lost, but if you click on each one, you can navigate to the new dll location and Native Access will reconnect to the plugins, and maintain them in that location in the future. You do not have to reinstall any of the NI products.

Ah ok. Oh man, in the end it’s simple. I hope, I get the Job done in the evening. Thank you very much for explaining me the hole stuff in such a understandable way.

Cheers,

Andy

What worked for me was installing UVI Workstation program in Program Files, the VST in the VST folder. And copying the UVI folder from Program Files into the VST folder.

Then after launching Ableton it's still not visible.

Then you go to Options/Preferences and change the VST folder to something else. Then change it back to the VST folder and there is UVI Workstation!

Good luck.
